10 Female Directors In Bollywood Who Are Changing The Structure Of Indian Film Industry By Their Relatable Stories.

Today in this fast-changing world, Bollywood has been given a new and better direction. And to make it much better, great women have made great creations which took Bollywood to another level. Personalities like Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit, Farah Khan, Sri Devi, Ekta Kaloor, Deepika Padukone and our new favorite girl Alia Bhatt have made Bollywood much attractive with their acting, production, direction, dance moves and what not.

Let's know something about India's best female directors from a whole new perspective.

1. Farah Khan.

Farah Khan Kunder (born 9 January 1965), known as Farah Khan has tasted great success through her movies. She has been working as a film director, film producer, actress, dancer, and a choreographer. She has choreographed routines for over a hundred songs. She is one of the best directors who has given us amazing movies like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, Happy New Year. Main Hoon Na has been one of the favourite movies of youths, casting Shahrukh Khan and Sushmita Sen. Om Shanti Om was also a very beautiful love story created by Farah. She has been honored with 6 Filmfare Awards (Best Choreographer), National Film Award (Best Choreographer), Filmfare for Best Director (Main Hoon Na).

2. Gauri Shinde.

Gauri Shinde (born 6 July 1974) is known for making realistic and meaningful movies. Initially, she started her career as an ad- filmmaker and now she is a successful Bollywood director. She made her directional debut with a really meaningful movie English Vinglish, starring the great legend Sri Devi, the movie was about a lady who was struggling to change her lifestyle and her language to gain respect from her own children and husband. The movie was a hit. She also directed a life-changing movie Dear Zindagi casting young diva Alia Bhatt and Shahrukh khan (as her psychologist).

She has been featured in 'Bollywood's 5 best directors of 2012'. She is awarded 14th IIFA Award, 58th Filmfare Awards and Toifa Award for Best Debut Director. She has also been awarded Laadli National Media Award for Best Mainline Film. We really need more life-changing movies and directors like her.

3. Divya Khosla Kumar.

Divya khosla kumar (born 20 November 1981), also known as Divya Dua is a young and beautiful director as well as an actress. She is an Indian former actress and now she is a producer and a director as well. Initially, she directed many advertisements. She has been featured in some music videos, her debut as an actor was in the movie Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. Her debut movie in direction was Yaariyaan, which was a fun movie and it was more of a youth-themed movie of friends, colleges. Divya Khosla Kumar directed her next film Sanam Re, it was a real hit as it was a passionate love story which connected with the millennials.

4. Reema Kagti.

Reema Kagti (born in 1972) is a film director and screenwriter from Assam. She started her career as assistant director in blockbuster "Lagaan" starring Aamir Khan and "Dil Chahta Hai". And she made her debut in direction with Talaash which was an extreme drama with Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji. She even directed a super hit movie based on India's first Olympic Gold medal, the movie named Gold which was starring Akshay Kumar. If you haven't watched yet, the movie is a must as the youth should know all the hard work older generation did for future kids. Reema Kagti movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara won many awards.

5. Zoya Akhtar.

Zoya Akhtar (born 14 October 1972), a film director and screenwriter. She completed her diploma in filmmaking from NSU. She started her career as an assistant director in Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya (her Brother Farhan Akhtar's movie). She made her debut in direction with Luck By Chance. Personally, for me, she is one of the best directors as she has created many movies which are youngsters favourite like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara starring with superhero Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and her own brother Farhan Akhtar and the movie was a huge success. Other works of her are: Bombay Talkies, Lust Stories, and Dil Dhadakne Do. She directed a blockbuster movie Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the movie was about the life of street rappers of India.

She has got 2 Filmfare, 3 IIFA and 3 guild awards for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara for direction and screenplay. And one Filmfare award for Best Debut Director for Luck By Chance.

6. Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari (born 15 October 1979) is a filmmaker and writer. She is a gold medalist in commercial arts from Sophia Polytechnic. Initially, she used to work in advertising. She made her debut in the direction in 2016 with Nil Battey Sannata which was comedy-drama. She directed Bareilly Ki Barfi starring Rajkumar Rao, Ayushman Khurana and Kriti Sanon which was a romantic comedy. She has won Filmfare, Zee Cinema Awards for Nil Battey Sannata for Best Debut Director and Filmfare Awards and International Indian Film Academy Awards form Bareilly Ki Barfi.

7. Meghna Gulzar.

Meghna Gulzar (born 13 December 1973) is an Indian writer, director, and producer. She completed her graduation in sociology and a short course in filmmaking from New Your University. Earlier, she was a freelance writer for The Times of India. She made her debut in direction with Filhaal in 2002. She directed Just Married, Dus Kahaniyaan, and Talvar. In 2018, she directed a super hit movie Raazi starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, the movie was about a wife who is a spy and protects her country. She received Best Director and Best Film Awards at Filmfare for the movie.

8. Konkona Sen Sharma.

Konkona Sen Sharma (born 3 December 1979) is an actress, writer, and director. Konkana Sen made her debut as a child artist in Bengali film Indira She has also acted in a horror movie Ek Thi Daayan, and she also has acted in Luck By Chance and Wake up Sid. In 2006 she made her debut in direction with Naamkaran. She has directed many other movies like A Death In The Gunj, Haseen Tu, Haseen Din.
She got Zee Cine Awards for Best Female Debut Director (Page3) and IIFA Award for Best Debutant Director (A Death In A Gunj).

9. Rajshree Ojha.

Rajshree Ojha (born in 1976) in Kolkata is a filmmaker and a director. She completed her computer science in New York and went to New York University to learn filmmaking. She was honored as Asian Voice by the Director's Guild of America. She made her debut with Chaurahen in 2002. Then she directed Aisha starring Sonam Kapoor (a young, rich, upper-class woman who believes that she is perfectly suited for match-making.) The movie was based on Austen's Emma (novel).

10. Nupur Asthana.

Nupur Asthana is an Indian film director and a writer. She completed her graduation from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University and did her post-graduation in Social Communication from Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai. She debuted as a director in film Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge in 2011 which was a young-teen film. She also directed a romantic comedy movie Bewakoofiyan which starred Sonam Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurana.
