Here are 15 things which we desi kids have learned from our parents and also from our dear relatives.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night due to cravings and when you went to the kitchen, you saw a beautiful ice cream tub in the fridge. But it was when you went closer, you saw there was flour in it, this is the first chapter of disappointment we learned and yes it started at home.
We indulge in full scale conversations and judge every inch of everybody and eventually conclude with how does it matter, a trait we pass on from generation to generation.
Because the sole purpose of everybody who comes to our house is to steal things from us, another thing we learned about life from our parents was distrust!
But this was a smart trick you had to acquire because you had to do it without your mother noticing it.
Because why settle for less when you can have more in life?
That is a good chapter on how to live on a budget. All schools should include this in their syllabus.
Because the desi in us can never be satisfied till the time we have had our staple, talk about staying intact with our culture!
Yes, we simultaneously watched daily soap with our parents at an age we also were obsessed with cartoons. This is where we learned how to be open to different things!
Oh, those sweet memories of childhood, in other parts of the world, people considered Marvel characters as their heroes, but we loved nobody as much as Anandi from Balika Vadhu. The things we share it with our parents!
Every store has a name and every locality has a supermarket, but how many of them are actually called by their names? Your grandmother once upon a time would have called a shop as "kinaare pe jo dukaan hai" and till date, everybody in your family (including you) calls it that. Talk about family legacy!
Everything Italian has to sound Indian, they just cannot leave the things the way they are. We even put paneer in pizza, what more can you expect?
Netflix and Amazon prime are becoming increasingly common now and our parents have begun to share the same interest in sitcoms too, but knowing what we know ill we ever sit with them and watch Game of Thrones? Never, God knows what might flash on the screen. *insert awkwardness here*
Remember that phase in childhood when these movies came out, but everybody would lie about not watching it? Because we are the good kids, good kids do what their parents tell them to.
We will never acknowledge the existence of our girlfriend/ boyfriend in front of our parents. Your girlfriend might be living five blocks away but you will always pretend like you do not know her in front of your parents. Because *Sanskaar*.
It is that love-hate relationship we have with our parents which makes our bond even cuter. We tell them we do not love them, but there is literally nobody else in the world we love more!
